When starting a new service design the first step I take is to teach everyone on the team about what it means to be truly user centered.<\/p>\n

I\u2019ve created 10 guiding service design principles that are core beliefs independent from the project to help guide everyone during design discussions and decisions.<\/p>\n

These principles are intended to be simple and people friendly.<\/p>\n

10 Service Design Principles<\/h2>\n

  1. Thoroughly<\/strong> understand and verify the problem<\/strong> to be solved before solutioning<\/li>\n
  2. Put user \/ actor needs at the forefront<\/strong> while understanding business and service impacts<\/li>\n
  3. Be agile; work together to embrace change, uncertainty, and collaboration<\/strong><\/li>\n
  4. Adopt a lean mindset for simplicity and flexibility<\/strong><\/li>\n
  5. Focus on making progress\u2014not perfection<\/strong><\/li>\n
  6. Continuously learn and improve through ongoing<\/strong> research, testing, and iteration<\/li>\n
  7. Everyone\u2019s voice is equal<\/strong>; research, design, and build for diversity, equity, and inclusion<\/li>\n
  8. Pivot to what\u2019s next while working towards critical outcomes<\/strong><\/li>\n
  9. Be open minded to solve problems while thinking holistically<\/strong> about the service and end-to-end experience<\/li>\n
  10. Carry brand<\/strong> principles and values throughout all work<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    When teams collaborate with each other and stay true to service design principles, it becomes easier to achieve user and business outcomes.<\/p>\n
